In today’s education sector, transparency and structured processes are essential — especially when it comes to school admissions. Before the implementation of this system in Šiauliai, parents frequently submitted applications to multiple schools simultaneously. As a result, the Education Department received two to three times more applications than the actual number of children.

This created significant data chaos, inaccurate statistics, and complex capacity planning. On paper, it appeared that the city had twice as many incoming students as it actually did, making it difficult to manage available school places effectively.

To solve this problem, we developed a centralized school registration system built on Yii2, designed to simplify, automate, and bring transparency to the entire admissions process.

Although the system still allows multiple applications for available places, it clearly displays the actual number of unique children. This provides the Education Department with an accurate real-time overview, enabling faster and more effective capacity planning.

The system is accessible online via a dedicated platform, ensuring convenient access for all stakeholders — parents, schools, and municipal administrators.

This project demonstrates how a well-designed centralized digital solution can eliminate administrative inefficiencies, improve data accuracy, and modernize public-sector education management.
